Adding Menu Items
Menu items are the core of your digital menu. This guide covers how to add, edit, and organize items so your customers see a well-structured, appetizing menu.
Adding a New Item
- Navigate to Menu Items in your dashboard sidebar.
- Click the Add Item button in the top-right corner.
-
Fill in the required fields:
- Name β The dish name as customers will see it (e.g., "Chicken Tikka Masala").
- Price β The price in your local currency. Enter it as a decimal (e.g., 14.99). It is stored internally in cents for precision.
- Photo β Upload a clear photo of the dish. Accepted formats are JPEG, PNG, and WebP, with a maximum file size of 10 MB.
-
Fill in the optional but recommended fields:
- Description β A brief description of the dish. Mention key ingredients and preparation style. Keep it to two or three sentences.
- Category β Assign the item to a category like "Appetizers," "Mains," or "Desserts." Items without a category appear in an "Other" section.
- Click Save. The photo immediately enters the AI processing pipeline for background removal and enhancement. On 3D Menu Pro, 3D model generation also begins automatically.
Editing Existing Items
From the Menu Items list, click on any item to open the edit form. You can update the name, description, price, category, or photo. If you upload a new photo, the AI processing pipeline runs again to produce updated images (and a new 3D model on 3D Menu Pro).
Changes are reflected on your public menu immediately after saving. There is no separate "publish" step.
Organizing Items
Items are displayed on your public menu grouped by category. Within each category, items appear in the order you set using the position field. You can reorder items by dragging them in the dashboard list view or by editing the position number directly.
Tip: Put your most popular and visually appealing dishes first within each category. These are what customers see when they first open your menu, and strong first impressions drive engagement.
Activating and Deactivating Items
Each item has an Active toggle. Deactivating an item hides it from your public menu without deleting it. This is useful for seasonal dishes, daily specials, or items that are temporarily out of stock. You can reactivate the item at any time and it returns to the menu with all its data and photos intact.
Item Limits by Tier
Your subscription tier determines how many active items you can have. Deactivated items do not count toward the limit. If you reach your tier limit, you need to either deactivate an existing item or upgrade your plan before adding more.
